Calendar of Events


Here is a cub scout calendar of events for January-August 2016.  There may be additions and/or deletions as we go along, but for now this is the plan.

This calendar does not include den meetings.

January
     28th - 6:30 pack meeting.  We will be having fun with Nerf Guns.  Please bring a nerf gun (and any extras you may be willing to share) along with nerf bullets.  Label your belongings before coming (we will have tape and markers at the meeting if you forget).  If you do not have a nerf gun let me know and I will make sure that there will be enough extras.  Siblings are welcome to participate.  (Scouts will receive their Pinewood Derby car kits to prepare for February's meeting. If any siblings would like a car kit, please let me know by January 4th.  Sibling kits will cost $4 each.)  Scouts will also be receiving their Applebee's Pancake breakfast tickets to sell.

February
    7th - Scout Sunday.  We will not be doing anything formally as a pack, but if your scout attends church he may wear his uniform.

    25th - 6:30 pack meeting.  Pinewood Derby.

    27th - Snowbox Derby at Dryhill (district-wide event).  More details later.

    28th - 7:45AM Applebee's Breakfast fundraiser.  The scouts will be seating guests, serving, and cleaning up.  We are hoping to raise money for an enclosed trailer.

March
    24th - 6 pack meeting (notice earlier time).  Blue and Gold Banquet.  This is a potluck dinner (everyone bring a dish to pass) to celebrate the birthday of scouting.  Family and friends are invited...anyone who is special to you.

April
    21st - 6:30 pack meeting.  Raingutter Regatta.  (A fun boat race!)

    23rd - Zenda Arbor Day Activity (more details later)

May
    26th - pack meeting (time not yet determined).  Flower Planting.

    30th - Memorial Day Parade in LaFargeville.

June
    3rd-5th - 2 night camping trip at Wellesley Island
   
    23rd - 6:30 pack meeting.  Space Derby with cookout.

July
    23rd - hike and fishing (more details later)

August
    12th - 1 night camping trip (more details later)

Planning Meeting

Tomorrow at 6pm at the Legion we will be meeting to plan the remainder of the school year.  Any adult who is interested is welcome.

Information

Tomorrow is the Clayton Christmas parade.  We will meet at Guardino Elementary by 5:30.  Remember to dress warmly...and don't forget your Hawaiian/brightly colored shirt and Christmas hat.  :)

Since our pack sold enough popcorn, we will be purchasing a Pack 74 t-shirt for all the scouts and leaders.  Wendy Cornell will be contacting everyone to get sizes.  I know she talked to some of you already, but if not keep your eye out for her email.  If any parents or grandparents would like one just let Wendy know and she will let you know the price.

Don't forget that our Pack has a beautiful tree on display at the TI Museum in Clayton, thanks to Tammi Shimel.  Go check it out!

December 17th at 6:30 is our next pack meeting.  This will also be the Arrow of Light bridging ceremony. 

December 22nd at 6pm is the planning meeting for any adults who would like to help plan our pack's activities for the remainder of the school year.

Popcorn prizes have come in.  Some of you got them at last night's den meetings.  If you haven't gotten your prize yet I will bring them to the den meetings on Tuesday.  If you don't have a den meeting that night, just contact me and make arrangements to pick it up.  Otherwise I will bring them to the pack meeting on December 17th.

Dates

     Thursday, December 1 at 5:30 - parade preparation meeting at the Legion.  We will be making cardboard fish and other decorations.  Also, there will be Christmas cards for the boys to sign that will be sent overseas to soldiers.  If you would like to bring other items to send that would be great. 

     Saturday, December 5th - Clayton parade.  Be at Guardino by 5:30.  Wear a tropical or brightly colored shirt and a Christmas hat.

     December 17th 6:30 - Pack Meeting and Arrow of Light bridging ceremony

     December 22nd - 6pm Planning Meeting for anyone interested in helping decide what the pack will do for the rest of the school year.

If you still owe popcorn money, please have that to me or your den leader by December 1st.

TI Museum Festival of Trees

This is Pack 74's Christmas tree on display at the TI Museum Festival of Trees in Clayton.  It was so beautifully decorated by Mrs. Tammi Shimel!  Thank you Tammi!
Be sure to check it out, along with all the other trees, at the museum from now through the holiday season.

Parade


This year our parade float will be a tropical island theme.  We will have a Gilco truck with hay bales around the outside (to keep everyone from falling off).  We would like to play the song "Christmas in the Islands" loudly from the float. The kids (and hopefully adults too) will wear either Hawaiian shirts (large enough to fit over their coat) or a brightly colored shirt (also over the coat) and a Santa hat, maybe even sunglasses.  I would like to get a couple inflatable palm trees.  We can use blue Christmas lights on the side of the float, so it looks like water.  The kids can hold either fishing poles or fish made out of cardboard. 

There is a meeting on Thursday the 19th at 4:30 to work on planning the float.  Everyone who wants to help is welcome to come!  We won't be actually decorating until a day or two before the parade because that is when Gilco can provide the truck.

Before the pack purchases the items we need, I wanted to ask if anyone had items that they would be willing to donate (see list below).  If you do, please let me know by Sunday evening.

Popcorn is coming!

Your popcorn will be available for pick up on Saturday, November 21 at the Municipal Building in LaFargeville from 10AM-11AM.

If you cannot make it during this time frame and cannot have someone come for you, please make arrangements to pick up your popcorn another time.

Important Info

This month's pack meeting will be on Tuesday, November 24th at 6:30.  Please note that this is a change from what was originally planned.  It will not be on the 19th (because that is our district's popcorn distribution day and I will be sorting scout popcorn at the warehouse).  Thank you for understanding and I hope that everyone can make it.

Our popcorn sales were a success.  We met our goal, thanks to all of you.  I do not have an exact figure yet, but our profit was approximately $2000.  Everyone's hard work paid off.  This money will pay for awards, ceremonies, parties, trips, and hopefully more camping gear.

We need to start thinking about our Christmas parade float.  The theme this year is "Christmas in the Islands".  I am told by the Chamber of Commerce that this means any islands, not necessarily the Thousand Islands.  Is anyone interested in being on the parade planning committee?  I think that we should meet soon to start planning.  Gilco is allowing us to use one of their trailers.

November 7 - Fort Drum fire station tour for those who signed up
November 24 - Pack Meeting
December 5 - Christmas parade
December 17 - Pack Meeting
December 22 - 6pm Planning Meeting (to plan pack's activities for the rest of the school year)

The Arrow of Light scouts will be "crossing over" to Boy Scouts at a ceremony in December.  I will keep you posted as to the date.  Everyone is invited to share in their special day!
